Crescent Heights
Originally two lots of housing adjacent to the Maine Medical Center Emergency and parking garage, the site was eyed as a potential location for short term housing for Tufts medical students completing their residency at the hospital. Over the years, institutional spread had overtaken the rental housing market, as well as traffic and parking in the West End. The run-down buildings were torn down and Crescent Heights was developed.
The site conditions were especially challenging due to the small space and steep slope. The excavation process for concrete footers and piers was exceptionally intricate as post tension tie backs from the parking garage stretched into the work area. Consisting of 44 bedrooms, Crescent Heights was built to exceed LEED Platinum Mid-Rise standards by the US Green Building Council. This building is as energy efficient as possible while incorporating materials manufactured regionally with recycled content.
